Marianne Alto launches re-election campaign for Victoria Mayor

May 20, 2026

VICTORIA, B.C- Incumbent mayor and four-time city councillor Marianne Alto has officially launched her campaign for re-election in 2026.

Marianne’s priority continues to be leading Victoria through times of growth and challenge by unlocking more homes for people, taking action on community safety, and investing in community and wellbeing

“It has been an absolute privilege to serve Victorians as their mayor for almost four years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to run again,” said Marianne Alto. “There’s more work to be done at City Hall to make Victoria a safe, welcoming, and thriving city, and I believe that my track record of balanced leadership and thoughtful progress makes me the clear choice to continue the work that we’ve begun together.”

Marianne’s approach to civic leadership is intentional and inclusive and stands in sharp contrast to the current political climate of disastrous shortcuts and shortsighted quick- fixes.

In her first three years as mayor, Alto successfully lead a series of community safety measures reflected in Victoria’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan, including increased focused attention on public space cleaning and improvements in the downtown core, opening a significant number of shelter and housing spaces, supporting youth intervention and community building activities, funding transportation programs and increased outreach coordination for people experiencing homelessness.

“Marianne stepped forward because she cares about Victorians and wants to see us all lifted up,” said Jayden Grieves, a first-time campaign volunteer. “She’s the right kind of politician, not here for glory or niche personal issues, but because she wants to help make Victoria safer, stronger, and more affordable. Her experience, vision, and ability to work with diverse people and groups will continue to be a massive asset to Victoria throughout her second term.”

Under Marianne’s leadership, Victoria has achieved 165% of its provincial housing targets and the rising costs of rent have begun to reverse. Through hard work on transit and infrastructure improvement, investment in community events, recreation, and small businesses, support for climate initiatives, and childcare, all consistently undertaken through a lens of reconciliation and collaboration with the Songhees and Xwsepsum Nations, Alto is working hard to make the lives of Victoria residents better.
